Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a science, art, and philosophy that concerns itself with the relationship between the nervous system and the function (health) of the body.

The Science: Since it’s beginning, Chiropractic has been based on the scientific fact that the nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system in the body. While the skull protects the brain, the spinal cord is more vulnerable, only protected by 24 moving vertebrae. When these bones lose their normal motion or position they can irritate the nervous system. This disrupts the function of the tissues or organs these nerves supply and control. This is known as the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Chiropractic is the science of locating these areas of spinal malfunction, the art of correcting them, and the philosophy of things natural.

The Art: After a thorough examination and a review of the patient’s health history, the Chiropractic doctor will recommend a specific spinal care program, which will include spinal adjustments. The word adjustment describes hundreds of ways of using carefully directed and controlled pressure to restore spinal bones to a more normal position and motion. When spinal function is improved, nervous system function (health) will improve.

The Philosophy: Besides the science and art, Chiropractic has a philosophical aspect. Doctors of Chiropractic recognize that regardless of the type of doctor one consults, the body uses its ability to heal itself. Chiropractic uses a natural means to assist the body in healing itself. A Doctor of Chiropractic accomplishes this assistance by focusing on removing nerve interference, allowing for optimal ability of the body to heal itself, thus providing a state of optimal health to the patient.

Chiropractic believes that your body has its own ability to maintain a healthy body. When your nervous system is working at 100% all the cells, organs, and tissues possess the ability to fight off disease, injuries and ill health.

A chiropractor locates areas of the nervous system that are not working at 100%, usually in the form of pinched or irritated nerves. An adult spine has 24 moving vertebrae that may lose motion or the proper position which can irritate and/or impair the nervous system. Chiropractors then gently realign these mal positioned vertebrae back, thus taking the pressure and irritation off the nerves, allowing the body to heal itself. Since Chiropractors remove this nervous system impairment, they have a positive effect on many health conditions that aren't associated with back pain.
